Dr. Debbie Amas
I’m a registered social worker who qualified in 1989. I’ve worked mainly in childcare initially as a generic worker and then as a senior social worker in child protection. I became a children and family team manager 1993 and then a Children’s Guardian between 1996 and 2002. In 1993 I undertook an Advanced Childcare Award at the University of East Anglia with mentors such as David Howe, Gill Schofield and Marion Brandon. I became a Practice Educator in 1993 and updated my qualification to the PEP2 in 2015. I’ve been an academic since 2007 in roles as a Course Leader, Module Leader, Placement Tutor and External Examiner. In 2016 I was awarded a sabbatical funded by the Federal Government in Australia to study for a PhD in Social Work. The subject and research I undertook was around the use of self in social work which is something I have a passion for and is central in my work as a professional.

Kheya Patel
I’m a registered Social Worker who qualified in 2023 after completing my BA (Hons) in Social Work. I am currently studying for an MA in Further Social Work Studies to deepen my knowledge and strengthen my practice. My experience lies primarily within adult social care, where I support individuals with a wide range of needs and work to promote independence, wellbeing, and person‑centred outcomes. I am deeply passionate about social justice, and a significant part of my work has focused on supporting people experiencing homelessness. I am committed to working alongside rough sleepers, ensuring they are heard, valued, and given genuine opportunities to rebuild their lives. For me, social work is about offering hope, advocacy, and the chance for someone to move forward with dignity and choice.
